The National Library of Wales websites does not capture or store any personal information about our visitors except where explicitly noted.

The National Library of Wales will not use the information collected in order to attempt to identify its online users, nor allow a third party to do so.

Collecting IP Addresses

Some of The National Library of Wales' services collect IP addresses in order to improve services. We collect IP addresses when compiling web usage statistics.

The National Library of Wales will not make any attempt - nor allow a third party to link IP addresses with information that would identify individuals.

Cookies

We are continually trying to develop and improve our website, and, in order to do this, we sometimes place small amounts of data on your computer. This data is called a ‘cookie’, and is standard practice on most organisations' websites.

Cookies are used for many reasons, for example:

  • To allow us to know when you have logged in to certain areas of our website (e.g. the Library catalogue)
  • To remember your language selection so that you see your language choice the next time you visit
  • When you fill in questionnaires, to allow you to move back through your choices without losing your selections
  • To learn how our website is used, in order for us to continually improve through statistical data

Google Analytics

The National Library of Wales (NLW) uses Google Analytics on its websites in order to collect statistical information to form reports on how users use our websites, which will in turn inform our future developments. This information is collected through ‘cookies’, which are text files that are placed on your computer to collect standard anonymous internet log information (including IP address) – which is then sent to Google. More information on the cookies used by Google Analytics is available on the Google website. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google.

Third Party Sites

From time to time the Library offers content from third party sites on its websites eg embedded videos/images. These could contain cookies of their own, and the Library is not responsible for the use of such cookies. For further information about these you should consult the third party's privacy policy. 

The Library also offers users the ability to share pages from our website by logging into your third party account from our website. We are not responsible for the cookies used, and you should consult the privacy policy of each respective site for further information.

External websites

The Library offers links to many external site which we feel may be of interest to you. The Library does not endorse any of the sites and you visit them at your own risk. Users should also be aware that these sites may offer cookies of their own, and should consult each site's privacy policy for further information.
